The Dolls

DOLLS stands for Drifters Original Ladies Luncheon Society!

The DOLLS is a new club set up and run by Wendy Bannister. There will be a number of lunch events throughout the season at Farnham Common Sports Club, involving plenty of food, plenty of drink and cheering on the Drifters! The events will also raise money for charity.

History

The idea for a ladies luncheon germinated through informal sideline chatter between mums and wives of players whom had been supporters for years whilst watching the rugby.

Many of these mums had started supporting their children at mini rugby right through to senior rugby level. Others are wives of coaches and players – some all three! What they all have in common is many years in support of the players of Drifters Rugby Club.

Selflessly, and often without much recognition, the ladies of our club work tirelessly to keep the rugby section running smoothly. From kit wash to taxis, fundraising, cooking and baking, serving, kit shop, burger flipping, listening to tactical manoeuvres planned before a match and the debrief after – the list is varied and endless!

It was decided to do something for the ladies who support the senior club, so a committee developed and the Drifters Original Ladies Luncheon Society (DOLLS) was born.

The committee felt the main objectives for the luncheons to be met were for the ladies to be waited on and treated, to have fun and, in so doing, enjoy and celebrate their important role within the club.

The overarching aims are to raise awareness for the ladies' role within the club and in reflection of the true spirit of Drifters Rugby Club, it was also deemed important for the DOLLS to make a contribution to local charities, tying Drifters ladies in with the larger community.
